Why are Lifts Supports Part(s) Important
Lift Supports are the muscle that keeps your hood, trunk, bed cover and other heavy lids pointing skyward. Through the use of pressure, usually provided by gas, a shaft is expelled from a cylinder until it reaches the extent of its travel. That extent is set by the support itself or the deck which is being moved. When compressed, the shaft returns back down into the cylinder where it will maintain in a resting position. Aside from assisting with the weight transfer of moving the deck upward, the lift supports also hold the deck at the top of its travel.
When lift supports begin to fail, the most obvious indication is that they can’t hold the deck at its fully open position. Because most lift supports work in pairs or groups, it is usually prudent to change out all supports in question when one begins to fail.
