Why are Washer Pump Part(s) Important
The windshield Washer Pump is the mechanism that pushes windshield washer fluid onto your windshield. Your windshield should always be clear of dirt, grime, etc. in order to ensure you can see the road ahead of you. That is why it is imperative you have a reliable and dependable washer pump to be there for you in times of need. Having a clear vision of the roadway is extremely important not only for your safety, but for your family and friends’ safety as well.
How does a washer pump work? It is really simple. Basically, when you turn on your windshield washers, an electrical signal is sent to the pump, which then pumps the windshield wiper fluid from the reservoir through a hose and out the nozzles. Most people put special windshield wiper soap in the reservoir, others simply use water. Either way, it’s important to keep your reservoir full so you aren’t left squinting through a dirty mixture of dead bugs, dirt and grime.
If your washer fluid isn’t coming out of the nozzles correctly, you could have a faulty washer pump. Before you replace the pump, you should check a couple of things to confirm it isn’t something else. First, check the reservoir to ensure you have fluid in there. (If you are in a cold weather area, frozen reservoirs have been known to occur, which means you’ll just have to wait for it to thaw out.) Second, check the hose running from the reservoir to the hood nozzles. You should make sure it is connected properly on both sides. While checking these connections, make sure the hose isn’t kinked, crimped or torn in any places. If it is, fix the crimp and/or replace the worn hose. Last but not least, check the nozzles on the hood to make sure there isn’t any debris. Using a pin or a needle is the best way to ensure that the hole is clear.
