          Cruise Control Information

Why are Cruise Control Part(s) Important

Cruise Control is a road tripper's best friend because it means you don't have to manually control your speed while driving long distances. In older cars, the idea of cruise control was done manually. When the cruise control was engaged, the throttle cable was held in place mechanically which fed a constant level of fuel into the carburetor. The problem with this system was that it was horribly inconsistent. If the speed limit was 70 mph but the terrain was hilly, the car would go 55 mph up hills and then 85 down hills. This rudimentary system needed constant resetting. This problem was solved by using the onboard computer to control the speed which adjusts the throttle to maintain a constant speed.

An old nemesis of cruise control systems has always been traffic. A slow car means you have to tap the brakes, disengaging the system. Newer cruise control systems (mostly found on higher end luxury models) use radar to automatically adjust the speed to match traffic. Then, once clear, the system automatically resumes its previous speed.

So be prepared for any trip my making sure your cruise control system in your car is functioning properly.
