Why are Fuses Part Important
Fuses are indeed one of the most important components to an automobile; in their simplest form, they are there to protect the wiring and the equipment. Instead of a wire or a device shorting out, the electrical current stops at the fuse. Having to replace a blown fuse is a lot cheaper and easier than having to replace the wiring or a radio for example. Some cars also include fusible links, which give added protection and another surge protector between the fuse and the wires.
Fuses are located in the fuse block that is generally found in the engine compartment and/or inside the vehicle under the driver’s steering column. The fuses in the engine compartment are for devices such as cooling fans, engine control units, or anti-lock brake pumps, just to name a few. The fuses inside the car is for devices inside the passenger compartment, such as dashboard lights or interior lighting. If you have a device that isn’t working, such as your alarm or stereo unit, you always want to check the fuse first before replacing the non-functioning unit or device. Many times it’s a blown fuse, which cost less than a dollar and can be replaced easily.
