          Coolant Recovery Information

Why are Coolant Recovery Part(s) Important

The Coolant Recovery System is important to your car's cooling system. About 66% of the energy produced by your engine is wasted as heat energy and must be dissipated to prevent overheating. The engine's cooling system is series of tubes send coolant around the engine with the purpose of absorbing the heat and rushing the wasted energy away. The coolant recovery system stores coolant when your car doesn't need it for when it does.

The coolant recovery system is designed to collect any coolant that escapes due to overpressure that happens when the engine overheats. A hose is attached to the radiator at the filler neck which runs to the coolant recovery tank. If the pressure becomes too much, the radiator cap is pushed up and the extra coolant flows from the radiator to the coolant recovery tank. Once the engine cools down, the coolant in the system contracts and creates a vacuum. This vacuum draws the coolant from the recovery tank back into the radiator, keeping the coolant at the proper level.

On some vehicles the external tank is just an overflow tank to capture coolant expelled due to overheating. In this case the coolant does not flow back into the radiator. If that is the case, goo then keep an eye on the coolant level in the radiator.

Flex-A-Lite Radiator Overflow Tank - This Overflow tank is a necessary part of your coolant recovery system and fits most stock models.
