Why are Gaskets, Seals & O-rings Part(s) Important
Gaskets, Seals, and O-Rings are all important to your car's cooling system. About 66% of the energy produced by your engine is wasted as heat energy and must be dissipated to prevent overheating. The engine's cooling system is series of tubes send coolant around the engine with the purpose of absorbing the heat and rushing the wasted energy away. The gaskets, seals, and o-rings help to keep the coolant moving through your cooling system.
In order for the cooling system to work, the coolant needs to stay inside the system. That is where the gaskets, seals and O-rings come in. Seals and O-rings are usually made of rubber, silicone, or some other compressible material that will fill any scratches and imperfections. Gaskets are usually special paper that is cut to fit the complex shapes of things like the water pump or thermostat housing. Gaskets are usually applied with a sealer similar to rubber cement.
