          Expansion Plugs Information

Why are Expansion Plugs Part(s) Important

The Expansion Plugs are one of the few access points between your external engine components and the internal engine. So while all the magic of combustion driven mechanical revolutions takes place out of sight, the external engine components provide necessary access to the internal engine.

The engine block peeks through at various points such as where the expansion plugs are pressed in. There are other key points on the external engine; the motor mounts where the motor is harnessed into the chassis; the oil pan and oil filter housing; the various covers like the timing cover, valve covers etc. In between those components and the engine block, you’ll find the various gaskets, seals and O-rings that protect your internal mechanics from outside contamination. The Expansion Plugs is an integral part of that system.

As with all things mechanical, expansion and contraction must be accounted for. And when you expect your engine to start in the freezing cold and reach operating temperature of around 200 degrees within a matter of minutes, precautions must be taken. Expansion plugs or core plugs offer that failsafe. They are pressed into the block and allow a safety valve should pressure build up in the engine. In that situation, the core plugs will pop out relieving the pressure in order to protect the engine block from cracking.

Dorman Engine Expansion Plug Kit Engineered better then the OE part, this completely new expansion plug kit is a superior alternative to remanufactured parts.
