          Gas Cap Information

Why are Gas Cap Part(s) Important

AKA: Fuel Cap, Locking/Non Locking Gas Cap, Vented Gas Cap,

Your Gas Cap keeps fuel in your fuel tank so it can eventually be supplied to your engine’s cylinder chamber. Once in the cylinder chamber, the fuel is mixed with air, compressed and burned to provide power your vehicles engine. The fuel system starts by storing fuel in a fuel tank and transporting it via a fuel pump. The fuel must pass through fuel lines and a fuel filter before being fed into either a carburetor or fuel injector. Every component of your fuel system, from your gas cap to your fuel injector, is an important part of how your engine operates.

At first glance it would appear that your gas cap is only meant to keep gas from spilling out of your tank. However modern emission restrictions require that your gas cap also maintain efficient fuel pressure in your fuel system. Additionally, a secure gas cap will prevent debris or particles from entering your fuel supply.

Fuel systems with excess debris will see their fuel filter clogged quickly, and their fuel pump fail more rapidly. Poorly pressurized fuel systems may experience poor fuel efficiency or increased emissions and will most likely fail a smog certification in strict states such as California.

Stant Regular Fuel Cap – OE style replacement gas cap ensures optimal fuel system pressure.

Stant Regular Locking Fuel Cap – This locking fuel cap prevents theft or tampering of the fuel in your vehicle.
