Why are Pistons & Rings Part(s) Important
Pistons and Piston Rings combine to be one of many players that make up mankind’s most ingenious creation: the internal combustion engine.
Within the confines of the engine block, bearings and bushings protect the sensitive surfaces within. Some of the most important surfaces are those that clamp the crank shaft and cam shaft into place. The crank shaft transfers the force created by the piston into mechanical power. That force turns the fly wheel and on into the transmission.
The cam shaft is connected to the crank shaft thought a series of gears and a chain or belt. It moves valve lifters which drive connecting rods up into the rocker arms. The rocker arms open and close the valves located in the cylinder heads allowing fuel to enter the engine cylinders and exhaust to exit. Not one part can be spared in this formula, especially not the piston and piston rings.
The piston and connecting rod is one of the most iconic images assigned to mechanics. The pistons fit snug to the cylinder walls thanks to the expansion and constant tension created by the piston rings. The tight seal created by the piston rings makes it possible for the pistons to build up enough pressure within the engine cylinders that fuel will explode, driving the piston back down and creating mechanical energy. Driving the pistons are the connecting rods. A wrist-pin connects them to the piston head at one end while they attach to the crank shaft at the other end.
Auto7 Piston Set Replacement piston for motor rebuilds on Hyundai, Kia and Daewoo platforms.
Beck/Arnley Engine Piston Ring Set Built to last and optimize performance, this piston ring set will seal your cylinders, keeping oil out and the combustion in.
