Why are Air Pump & Vacuum Pump Part(s) Important
AKA: Smog Pump, Engine Pump, Vacuum pump, Vacuum Chamber, Air Blower
Both the Air Pump and Vacuum Pump play a part in the emissions control system--a complex and overarching network of pumps, valves, filters, control systems, sensors, ventilation/ recycling components, and electronics used to limit your cars exhaust of toxic byproducts. Proper emissions control helps modern cars run more efficiently than ever before by reducing fuel consumption. Today’s computer managed engines deliver more power, use less fuel, and spew fewer emissions than their predecessors. However, these tight tolerances require proper functioning components including the air pump and vacuum pump.
Proper emissions control is argued to have effects ranging from the noticeable reduction of local smog to reducing the effects of man-made climate change.
Air pumps and vacuum pumps do the same thing in different ways. They bring in extra clean air and inject it into the exhaust gases to help combust unburned and partially burned fuel. The air pump, also referred to as a smog pump, can be powered by the belt system or electrically. A vacuum pump is powered by the manifold vacuum.
The process varies but generally the extra air is injected into the catalytic converter or exhaust pipe, depending on the engine temperature, to ignite excess gases in the exhaust. Either way, unburned fuel is reduced and exhaust gases are oxidized further.
Standard Vacuum Pump Designed to bolt up like OE part but with increased corrosion defense.
Dorman Vacuum Reservoir 100 percent new component designed to fit and work just like the OE designed vacuum reservoir.
