The PCV Valve plays a part in your vehicle’s emissions control system--a complex and overarching network of pumps, valves, filters, control systems, sensors, ventilation/ recycling components, and electronics used to limit your cars exhaust of toxic byproducts. Proper emissions control helps modern cars run more efficiently than ever before by reducing fuel consumption. Today’s computer managed engines deliver more power, use less fuel, and spew fewer emissions than their predecessors. However, these tight tolerances require proper functioning components including the PCV valve.

Proper emissions control is argued to have effects ranging from the noticeable reduction of local smog to reducing the effects of man-made climate change.

Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) takes any blow-by gases that have entered the crankcase and sends them into the intake manifold to be run through the emission control system. This enables the emissions control system to remove any hydrocarbons. The breather tube portion of the system brings filtered air into the crankcase. The air then circulates collecting any hydrocarbon and water vapors before being vented out through the PCV valve.
