Why are King Pins Part(s) Important
King Pins supports your suspension system, one of the most important and customizable systems of the modern automobile. Whatever your auto scene, the right suspension components are absolutely critical to achieving your ambitions for your vehicle. Hard parts like bearings, bushings and armatures need to be understood, inspected for movement and/or rigidity and—if necessary—replaced or upgraded. Performance parts are so plentiful for the suspension system that whatever course you plan on putting your vehicle through and whatever stance and ride you think ideal, you can achieve it—it’s just a matter of deciding what you want from your suspension. Whatever stage of daily upkeep, restoration or modification you’re in, your king pins need to be up to snuff and here’s why…
A king pin is a main steering pivot point on any vehicle it appears on. Not as common as the more modern “ball joint,” the king pin essentially does the same thing: It attaches to the suspension and accepts the steering knuckle which is mounted on the king pin’s single axis. So instead of a ball and socket type joint, the king pin uses more of a traditional hinge style. While this has been largely phased out, there is one area where king pins are still prominent: heavy trucks. The limited nature of the king pin makes it more sturdy and able to handle more weight.
Draw-Tite Fifth Wheel King Pin Lock This king pin fits most commercial and recreational couplers. Features a solid steel lock backer and a powder coated finish to resist corrosion.
