          Clutch Bell Housing Information

Why are Clutch Bell Housing Part(s) Important

The Clutch Bell Housing is necessary to use a clutch to change between gears. A clutch is a surprisingly simple mechanism but is only found on cars with manual transmissions; cars with automatic transmissions use a torque converter. They may use very different means in doing so, but both facilitate in the smooth changing of gears in the transmission at speed. The bell housing is a necessary part of the manual transmission.

The name of the bell housing is derived from its bell-like shape. It is shaped as such to fit the clutch plate and flywheel but tapers to fit the output shaft at the other end. Within this housing is also the starter mechanism that manually turns the flywheel to start the engine. The purpose of it is simply to protect the clutch assembly and starter from the elements.
