Why are Modulator Valves Part(s) Important

Modulator Valves help make up the supporting cast of external transmission parts to compliment the internal components. These external components do everything from allowing the driver to control various aspects of the transmission to keeping it cool and lubricated. The parts vary in size and importance but without parts like the modulator cables, your car would grind to a halt.

The modulator valve is attached to the side of older, non-computer controlled transmissions to control the valve body inside the transmission. Vacuum pressure moves a pin inside the valve dictating when the transmission shifts. The faster the engine revs, the more vacuum generated. When it reaches a certain level, the valve trips and the transmission shifts to a different gear. If the valve goes bad, the transmission won’t shift as smoothly and transmission fluid can be sucked into the engine resulting in white smoke coming from the tailpipe.
